Step back in time

Once upon a time…

…a new artistic chapter opened for us, and for many art enthusiasts. Georgina had a dedicated Art Gallery, and I became a big part of it, for many years as a volunteer, and then as a curator (and more!).

As curator, I continued the tradition of beautiful exhibitions, and I expanded it to include concerts, art talks, and other cultural events. Always something to see or to hear! Artists and tourists came from as far away as Alberta and Nova Scotia; people drove here from Burlington, Peterborough and further afield to attend the events (for those of you, dear readers, who are not familiar with the area, our audiences came from as far afield as 150 kilometres).
Everything in life comes to an end, and that chapter is now closed.

But luckily, a new chapter just opened! We should shout out “Read all about it!” but here you are, already reading all about it! Art talks are starting up again, and presentations are getting under way – although not, of course, at the old Art Gallery. There will be music and dance, creative events, art exhibitions and concerts, and of course this website!

It takes time to create the presentations, and to set up the infrastructure and planning for these occasions. While this new chapter is being written, we can recall the past fun we had! History – the past – is something we must always cherish, and the history of the Georgina Art Centre – the GAC, as it was fondly called by its members! – is rich in community involvement, artistic talent, and vibrant, living creativity.

Here is a video interview with the founder of the Gallery, Catherine Babick, where she talks about how she established the Georgina School of Fine Arts, the Georgina Studio Tour, and the Georgina Art Gallery.

Let’s look at some photos and videos of the accomplishments of the last decade, in a series of chapters where we shall stroll through the years.

We are looking to the future – but we cherish the past!
